Trish Fernweh

Trish is an architect, woodworker, and timberframer based in central Vermont. She is an instructor for timber framing and design/build classes with Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Waitsfield, VT. She has a BA in Studio Art from Willamette University, a Masters in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati, and a deep love for the metamorphic process of shaping raw materials into compelling spaces and objects.

After working for a variety of architectural firms on projects big and small, Trish founded Shapeshifter in 2020 out of a heartfelt call to pursue the practice of design hand-in-hand with process of building and fabrication. The name Shapeshifter is both a literal description of creating forms and spaces, and a callback to the transformative magic of folklore and fantasy. Her work focuses on orienting our focus to the intrinsic qualities of the forms which surround us: the gnarled profile of live-edge wood, the overlapping layers of color in a vibrant Vermont autumn, the repurposing of old barn wood to reveal a rich wood grain hidden by decades of dust and dirt.

Combining practical experience in architecture with a love of design and an artistic eye, Trish crafts uniquely beautiful places and objects for you and your home.
